Health Screening
- We implement, at regular intervals, a screening policy for all employees, which includes audiometry, lung function and vision. We also screen for Vibration White Finger, musculoskeletal problems and dermatitis. All results are made known to employees.
- All potential new starters must pass a baseline medical which includes drug and alcohol testing.
Health Surveillance
- We implement at regular intervals, unit surveillance of noise, dust and other harmful substances such as Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS), welding fumes and Radon.
- We work towards elimination of hazards, such as noise and RCS, however, provision of all forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) is undertaken if hazards remain in the workplace.
- All results are made known to employees.
Health Initiatives
- We have screened all potential employees for Vibration White Finger and provided improved PPE and low vibration tools.
- We have introduced a drugs and alcohol policy.
- We have implemented a comprehensive employee medical scheme to promote general health and wellbeing.
- All staff who require safety prescription glasses or work with VDU's (visual display units) are entitled to free or subsidised prescription glasses.
- All staff are offered yearly Flu injections.
- Employees exposed to RCS are subjected to detailed risk assessment by our retained Occupational Health Doctors.
Health Successes
- We have reviewed and re-issued, after consultation with staff, improved PPE. We have identified staff who have Vibration White Finger and issued guidance on preventing further exposure.
- We have retrained Employees in the wearing and use of PPE.
- Noise and dust refuges have greatly reduced exposure for staff.
- We promote the well being of all Employees whilst at work and at home.
Health Targets
By the end of 2008 we intend to eliminate any new cases of :-
- Noise induced deafness
- Vibration White Finger
- Dermatitis
- Musculoskeletal problems
