MQP Supports North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership

NWLSSP Primary

MQP proudly supports the North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership (NWLSSP)!

North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership (NWLSSP) is a strong local partnership made up of 4 High Schools, 2 Upper Schools, 36 Primary schools and 1 Special School, all located in the North West Leicestershire District (Coalville, Ashby, Ibstock and surrounding villages). The hub site is KEVII Science and Sport College, Coalville.

NWLSSP aims to increase and improve high quality opportunities in PE, school sport and physical activity for ALL young people, aged 5 – 19; a total of nearly 13,000 pupils in our area.

As a highly successful and nationally recognised SSP which is currently re – launching as a result of National funding cuts; the key areas of work are…

  • Delivery of high quality inclusive PE, breakfast, lunchtime and afterschool clubs delivered by teachers, coaches and young leaders (last year over 8000 hours of coaching were delivered in a wide variety of sports through the SSP).
  • Delivery of high quality competitions/ festivals (last yr 120+ competitions were delivered and supported by trained young leaders as officials, coaches and club personnel).
  • Training young people and adults in leadership and volunteering (accredited courses and providing links for them to volunteer in schools, competitions and our local community sports clubs).
  • Formalising and developing links between schools and local clubs providing pathways to community and life long participation in physical activity (32 formalised links with our local community partners).
  • Providing and sourcing teacher training in PE and School Sport.
  • Working in partnership with a huge number of local and national partners (North West Leicestershire District Council, County Sports Partnership, Leicestershire County Council, National Governing Bodies of Sports, Leisure centres etc) to develop projects, initiatives and programmes of mutual benefit to all partners. This work has been recognised nationally.

The SSP has fought hard this year to sustain their outcomes into the future by adding to the now minimal national funding with all 44 schools/colleges agreeing to contribute a per pupil amount and also sourcing partner funding/ sponsorship from community organisations and funding applications. The new structure be it smaller in size initially will look to extend opportunities further, above all increase participation of young people locally linking with the wider County and National School Games initiatives and be sustainable into the future.

NWLSSP are really grateful for the support of MQP and hope that this initial link will develop further as the new SSP unfolds in September – providing opportunities and benefits for both organisations and staff for joint working.

MQP vision statement ….” We will give our customers what they want when they want it, have valued employees striving to succeed in a safe workplace and minimise our impact on the environment”

reflects NWLSSP commitment to develop ‘high quality’ physical activity and make it accessible to ALL young people at the best possible value with highly qualified staff.
