Winners of tunnel naming competition
Congratulations go to Miss E Preston of Stanton Under Bardon and Mr K Flemming of Markfield for their suggestion of the name JOSKIN for the new tunnel linking Old and New Cliffe Hill Quarries.
After requesting the help of local residents to name the tunnel in the Christmas edition of the Cliffe Hill Chronicle we received a wonderful response and had a very difficult task in choosing the final name.
However, the final choice was suggested by both Miss Preston and Mr Flemming separately, who recalled it as a local name still used today by many in the village. The name, “Joskin Tunnel” will be cast into the concrete portal at each end of the tunnel later on this year. As well as having the name cast in the portal the winners receive £25 in Tesco vouchers.
MQP would like to thank everyone who put forward ideas for the tunnel name and hope you will follow its progress through to completion in the summer.
