Manic Quarry Paddlers take on Dragon Boat Race

Sunday 4th August 2019 saw our Manic Quarry Paddlers take on the Nottingham Riverside Dragon Boat Race.  They were taking part to raise money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young people (MQP’s nominated Charity).

The Team, made up of Sales and Customer Service staff had some experience of the event after taking part last year.  This year saw them reduce their best time over the three races by several seconds, despite this they narrowly failed to make it into the semi-finals, missing out by one second. They finished 2nd in their mixed team (Men & Women) category and 10th overall, with a total of 21 teams competing.  Although they didn’t take the top spot in the races, they were awarded the trophy for most money raised by a team at the event, something which they are very proud of.  So far they have raised over £3,300, which they hope will increase as donations keep coming in.

Steve Kendrick (MQP Distribution Supervisor) commented “The support on the day was amazing from everyone who came to cheer us on but we could always use more, and with what there is for the whole family to do at the festival let’s get more there next year to enjoy a full day out cheering on Team MQP.”
Sam Moore Team Captain (MQP Transport Supervisor) said

“We all had a fantastic day taking part in this year’s Dragon boat festival, it’s great to get the team together and take part in such a fantastic event.  The money we raised will go a long way to making a huge difference for such a fantastic cause, it was a pleasure to be part of it!  We’ll be going all out next year to go one better!”
